  • Summary: The Perfect Solution
  • Comment: Want to step up your fighting game ability without shelling out $100 for a decent arcade stick? If so, this is the controller for you.

Let's face it, the regular X-Box controller just wasn't designed to accommodate the needs for fighting games. Pulling off combos and getting special moves to come out when you want them to can be a real chore with the normal X-Box control stick and buttons. While they may take a small bit of getting used to at first, the comfortable pad and Sega Genesis style buttons of this Fightpad offer a much better experience.

I saw a few comments complaining about how this is a wired controller as opposed to wireless, but I don't see why anyone should care about that. Wired means you don't have to use batteries or a charger, and the USB input allows the controller to be used for PC games as well.

If you're a competitive player, then an arcade stick is still probably the best way to go, but the FightPad is the next best option no matter what type of fighting gamer you are.

  • Summary: Great replacement controller for your XBOX 360 pad
  • Comment: I have been searching for a controller with 6-buttons on the face for a very long time. Ever since the Sega Genesis and Saturn died, the gaming world has universally adopted the 4-button-on-front interface. That is great for most types of games, but NOT for Street Fighter.

After buying countless replacements to play Street Fighter games on the PC, I found this one to be the best. Not only does it have a large, durable d-pad, but it also has a nice feel. It's got 6 large buttons on the front, which makes it easier to pull off throws, focus cancels (SF4), or overheads (SF3). It also feels light. But don't let that fool you into thinking this controller is cheap. Far from it. It has stood against constant mashing, lots of 720 motions, and occasional tosses after frustrating online matches :D

And although Street Fighter purists will lambaste me for using turbo, I found the feature to be useful when set to the top buttons (3 punches and 3 kicks) to make pulling off ultras much easier in a tough online match. Though I don't think it's programmable to do link combos.

I am not a joy stick guy, so the transition from the 360 controller to this was pretty smooth.

While a wireless pad would have been great, the USB cable still its perks: no batteries wasted and PC play.

Overall: this stylish pad gets a 5/5 for it's practicality, durability and price.

  • Summary: The d-pad needs a little work, but the button layout is great.
  • Comment: I liked this pad a lot, and it's a definite must for any game that requires a 6 button layout like Street Fighter 4. The problem I had with the pad is that the d-pad didn't seem very sturdy. Sometimes when I tapped right, it'd get stuck and I would start walking a few extra steps. In a game like Street Fighter, that's a no no and I would end up getting combo'd and eventually lose the match.

I would definitely recommend spending the extra money and getting the fight pad. I know it's 2-3x the price, but if you're going to be playing Street Fighter IV or Marvel vs Capcom 2, you're going to need to push 2+ buttons at a time, and using your thumb on a gamepad isn't going to work that well.

But if you only have the $30-40, then yes, this pad is wonders better than trying to play SF4 on your Xbox 360 Controller.
